SSI Developer is a non-commercial not-for-profit resource for web site designers and developers. SSI-Dev was born out of the ashes of a personal home page www.endamcg.com. We outgrew the previous site and needed a new name and look as we changed direction from personal web site to Web Developers Resource.
The change seems to have paid off, in the 15 months since then (by June 04) we have grown to the stage where we receive over 30,000 unique visitors per month (and growing) and were not so long ago (Dec '03) featured on a technology program on BBC World.
Aspiring webmasters, web developers or curious folk.
The site is aimed at anyone with an interest in web development technologies.
Why not? We set up the site to feed our hunger for knowledge and thought it would be a good idea to pass on the knowledge we have gained.
The webmaster is Enzo, an Irishman living in Finland. The web design thingy is just a hobby, 8am - 5pm Enzo works a real job. Hobby time is 9pm to whenever while listening to a range of MP3's.
Technologies: (X)HTML, CSS, SSI and a smidgen of PHP. Some cobol & pascal back in the 80's. Learned: On free sites like this, learned by reading source code and experimenting.
Everything is hand-coded on SSI-Developer using HTML-Kit, an excellent text editor we highly recommend.
Most of the graphics are done in 2D&3D
Animator and MS Draw (*gasps*), occasionally Gimp is used, and not forgetting IrfranView for general stuff.
Firefox is the browser of
choice, Smart FTP takes care of file transfer and
home testing is done with the
Apache/PHP/MySQL combination. The all important W3C HTML & CSS validators are often used of course.
Windows. Yeah it crashes every hour but I like a good UI and just can't get the programs I want with linux. Jag ber om ursäkt Linus, i'll buy you a Guinness.
