I suppose I should mention that today is Finnish Independence Day (Itsenäisyyspäivää). They’re fairly proud of their independence these Finns. They had a parade in the city centre with all the usual flag flying, military vehicles and a fly-over of some Air Force aircraft. I would have taken some pictures only I was in bed trying to get over a wicked hangover. We’d bit of a session last night ya see.
(Buíochas le Panu.)
Hyvää Itsenäisyyspäivää

actually, the Irish-Finnish Society had their Independence Day party at the weekend. I was otherwise occupied so I couldn’t make it along (usually I give a trip into it).
What’s your connection with Finland, do ya mind me asking?
I don’t know why there was such a big fuss about the plans to use the Irish military in next year’s 1916 parade. Seems like most countries celebrate this way.
BTW they should call it Findependence Day.
I studied there for a little while with the aid of the Finnish Government six or seven years ago.
UI – I see a bright future for you in comedy
Winds, Ah I see. Good to see you survived
my eldest lad is called Finn. He’s thrilled that he has a whole country named after him.Or he would if he wasn’t 2 and KNEW what his name was.
lol
maca,
Attended a few Finnish independence day ‘parties’ with suomalaiset pals before. They have a nice attitude to commemoration – it’s more about their struggle and losses as opposed to xenophobic Russian-bashing.
Dar críopsa príosta! Nár inis aon duine duit nach bhfuil i gceist le “ItsePäisyyspäivä” ach imeartas focal (“lá na stobarnáilteachta”)? “ItseNäisyyspäivä” an leagan ceart, ar ndóigh!
