The Good
- My exotic dancing tour of the Far East is at an end. I’m home, recovered from the few viruses I picked up over there and am ready for blogging again.
- I’ve been made an offer for my domain … 4 figures … i’ve accepted.
The Bad
I’m out of tea bags. Fuck.
The Dog Ugly
If I sell my domain i’m not sure what will hapen to Raiméis. I may just relocate to a new domain (trying to think of a new and interesting URL, dickhead.com is gone), then again I may just quit blogging if it’s too much hassle getting set up again. No decisions have been made yet. One thing is for sure, i’ll miss all the good folk i’ve met in the Irish Blog O’Sphere so I probably won’t quit.
Sin é.
Uhem,
congratulations on the offer but…
don’t go.
*pretty please*
also
welcome back.
Thanks Treasa. Well as I said, no decisions have been made and I’d miss blogging if I left.
A Mhaca,
In addition to any English blog you might start, consider beginning an Irish one; I’ve noticed you’ve slackened off on your attempts to revise your Irish, and having a blog might keep you motivated.
In case you hadn’t heard, there’s now a group working its way through Progress in Irish; you might prefer to do your revision with others. It’s at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/progressinirish/
Tá súil agam go bhfeicfidh mé thú anseo ‘s ansiúd ar ball.

Tell you what.If you don’t go I’ll give a couple of boxes of Barry’s.Just come back from Ireland with a suitcase full of the essentials.Customs people in Washigton know me by name now…….You drive a hard bargain…alright..I’ll throw in a jar of Bovril as well.
Welcome back Maca!
Why do they want to buy your space, your domain?
It is yours, so I don’t understand why they want your space. Can’t they get a brand new one?
Stay with us, don’t go!
A Chionaoidh
Aye, I’ve slackened off alright, i’d like to post as Gaeilge but have even less confidence in my Irish now. I’ll have to find some way to rectify that.
Ta for the link.

It’s a deal! Though you can keep the Bovril

It’s an established site with regular visitors. They want it because they know it’s worth money.
OK, I already knew the main website of yours and I understand it’s worth money, but if you don’t write in it anymore it won’t be the same and it’s value will lessen.
Am I wrong?
Isn’t the value of a blog (or a website) given by what it’s written and hence by who’s writing it?
So, if you’re not to write any longer where’s the value in it?
Help me understand… This is not the first time I read something like that…
Well a blog is very very different from a content rich website like my main domain. Because the SSI-Dev website is a tutorial site on hot topics (html/css) I don’t really need to write much or often, just keep up to date with the technology. The technology isn’t changing so much, and once the site is bringing in visitors it will be worth money.
I haven’t updated the site much in over a year yet it consistently brings in around 30-35K visitors per month. Plus the site has a lot of potential, add new tutorials, new content and more people will visit generating more money and raising the value of the site. The site won’t really lose value unless the information becomes obsolete.
This blog (i.e. Raiméis) is worth about €0.05 incl. VAT
