I’m redesigning my website (not the blog) and am going to do something I don’t normally do, get someone else’s opinion on it before I finish it. Would anyone with 2 minutes to spare consider taking a peek and giving their honest opinion? Be brutal. (content styles haven’t been looked at yet, just the header/footer/side bar).
• new template
• same content in old template for comparison
I lean toward the yellow one. Although the no-BS green one appeals to the geek in me (just the facts, Ma’m), I’ve a decent sense for what appeals to the masses, and they’d prefer the yellow one. Of course, if you only ever get visitors who’re geeks, go with the green one.
Consider getting the URL into the yellow header art (reinforces it in the minds of the visitors). You did this on the green one, but not on the yellow.
The green one has no ads — is this intentional?
I like how the ads in the yellow one are sprinkled here & there (sides, bottom), and not all bunched up on one side like so many other sites.
Maith thú!
PS – what ever happened to selling the URL? Did I miss something?
GRMA a Chionaoidh!! Thanks for the feedback. Well, i’ve had the yellow one for over a year and I always hated it (esp the colours) so I would really like to finally get away from it. Plus I’m switching to using CSS for layouts rather than HTML tables so I wanted a simpler more robust design. I thought the green one might be better for the audience who probably have a high geek factor
The green one will have ads before (if) it goes online, much the same as on the yellow one, sprinkled about.
Re Selling the URL: the deal fell through.
Right mucker. U asked me so here goes;
Firstly what’s with the sum in the comments section?
I like the first design better: It seems sharper.? Change the colour if it floats ur boat or even combine a mixture of the 2 to get real geek attention
Good man Del! Thanks for your input! Always good to have feedback from different ppl especially prospective users
