Mobile GMaps

This is definitely one to check out …

Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays maps from Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local (MSN Virtual Earth), Ask.com, Open Street Map and other sources on Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones, PDAs and other devices. MGMaps can connect to a GPS receiver over bluetooth or use internal GPS features on some phones in order to automatically display the map for your current position. You can pre-download maps and store them on your memory card in order to use them on the go without accessing the internet.

The problem I had with Google Maps on the aul mobile was the bloody cost (& speed) of downloading maps … hey presto Mobile GMaps!! Now I can download a truck load of maps to the PC and transfer to the mobile! Brilliant!

I’m downloading and installing as we speak but it’s a slow process. Will post an update if ne1 is interested.

  1. That might be handy for where my phone doesn’t get service and Google Maps doens’t work. (Lucky me has unlimited downloads on a $2.99 plan.)

  2. Talking about GPS and electronic devices using this technology, please read this article

and see what happens when maps are not accurate :-)

  3. Howya Mick!!
unlimited downloads for 2.99?? You jammy whammy!

Good one Antonio! Mind you, every Irish town is as bad anyway :)

  4. Yeah $2.99 ain’t bad, but it’s behind a proxy that severely limit’s the speed. Cost’s $30 for full speed unlimited, but for $2.99 I can live with it! :)
