Slave Day!

How many of you are working today? Have any of you been given the day off?? Not a chance here.
Being on a fixed annual salary today is ‘ride your employee’ day; the day you have to work for free, for no extra pay. Isn’t that nice? It is if you are an employer.

It’s something we should start to complain about. Ok it’s only a single day and maybe you don’t mind working one day for free but we should make use of the day not just give it to our employers.

It only comes once every four years so why not make it a ‘national holiday with a cause’?

Call it Save the Planet Day if you’re a greeney;
or National Appreciation Day where you go and (re)learn a bit about our history or visit some historical sites etc etc etc.

There’s lots of things we could do with our time on February 29th rather than spend it in work for free!

  1. Many people have been complaining yesterday for working for free, but this is a thing I don’t agree nor I understand.
    If you are paid for your working hours, like a good 30% of the people over here, you get your salary according to it. So it’ll be alright.
    If you are paid on a fixed salary there’s no reason to complain about it. In Italy most of the people work and are paid on a fixed monthly salary and this salary is computed on an avarage month of 22 working days. So I’d rather complain for working for free in longer months than leap year Februaries, like March or July or October. I mean, in a 31-day month it’s much easier to work for free one day than in a 29-day February. In a 31-day month with only 4 Saturdays and 4 Sundays you’ll work for 23 days and will be paid for 22 days only. That’s when you’ll work for free and that’s when you’ll be right for complaining.
    But if you are paid on a yearly basis you can complain if really you are working a day too many. But keep in mind that it could happen than in some years, due to an extra Sunday in the calendar you could take this “working-for-free” day back.
    I’d call it a draw :-)

  2. Many people here get paid a fixed annual salary, depending on what u work at obviously, so the 29th is an extra days work every 4 years. Ok, it’s only 1 day and perhaps there might be extra Sunday’s in the calendar like you said but I still think we should do something more with it since we don’t get paid for it.
    We work too much as it is :)
