Casey’s Irish

Was having a few pints the other night, Casey’s Cream Ale to be exact, when I noticed the Casey’s logo on the glass with the following written underneath…

An beer is deasa domhain

Hmm, must be a Kent dialect … it’s marketed as “Caseys of Waterford” but is apparently brewed by Shepherd Neame.

Google SketchUp

Dog gonnit! I was just writing a post last night which I planned to publish today telling you about a deadly 3D program i’d recently been playing with called SketchUp, which is great fun to mess with but carries a high price tag. Now what have Google gone and done? Released a free version forcing me to completely rewrite my post! Inconsiderate feckers.
Anyway … SketchUp … download it, it’s deadly.

Google SketchUp is an easy-to-learn 3D modelling program. Using a few simple tools you can create 3D models of houses, sheds, decks, home additions, woodworking projects-even space ships. You can add details, textures and glass to your models, and design with dimensional accuracy.

Redesigns in the air

I notice that /. (Slashdot) are having a CSS redesign contest … winner gets a new laptop. Any Irish tech-bloggers giving it a lash? I couldn’t be arsed, I have neither the time nor energy (nor skills truth be told) to attempt such a thing.
Anyway it looks like I’m holding on to my current website because, unfortunately, the sale has fallen through. So I’ve decided to redesign & expand the site in an attempt to make some more much needed spondulics, just need to come up with some design concepts … any ideas?

The feeling is good…

…the sun is shining, it’s one of the warmest days in about 6 months. The winter tyres have been swapped for the summer ones, the driving is smooth, the grip better so the corners are taken that bit faster, the MP3 player turned up a few clicks more is belting out the grinding tones of Toxicity…

“…New, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,
Sacred and silence and sleep,
Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep,
Disorder, disorder, disorder…”

In the words of Louis Balfour … nice!

Brain exercise

I’ve started getting into certain types of puzzles recently. It all started when I discovered the Hapland series. I’ve managed (with some help) Hapland 1 & 2, but 3 is a killer. Even with a walk through it takes a few attempts.
I’ve also gotten into the type of puzzles where you have to escape from a room by finding clues. There’s quite a number of them available such as The Bar & Il Destino and Locked Office. The best of these type are the series from Toshimitsu Takagi, the Crimson Room, the Viridian Room, the Blue Chamber and the White Chamber. So if you’re bored these will keep you busy for a while.
Anyone doing the Da Vinci Code Quest on Google?

Rugby – Munster v Leinster

I don’t really follow rugby at all. In fact ah the only rugby I watch are the Irish internationals. Apparently though there was a big game yesterday between Leinster and Munster. The langers came out on top. There are a number of rugby fans in the Blog O’Sphere, some of them are Munster men but nobody’s perfect I suppose.
Of course the reason for the Munster men being so good is simple … sheep. Yes, it’s an old joke but there is actually truth behind the ewe-phenism. You see, for a long time out across the Burren and above in the wilds of Macgillycuddy’s Reeks were GAA men who liked it rough and apparently liked four-legged females a little more than the two-legged variety. Sheep of course were never the most compliant of animals (so i’ve been told) and would often need to be chased down and tackled if one wanted to have their wicked way with them. Over time these leisurely pursuits were bound to yield benefits in the other leisurely pursuits (on the GAA field that would be) and vice versa I suppose, hence the magnificent skills displayed by some of the great Munster GAA teams over the years.
Anyway, after generations of sinful tackling and a pile of All-Irelands for Kerry fellow Munster men of the garrison game playing kind discovered this woolly secret and incorporated it into their training regime. It’s true! Honest to god! They actually take it so serious now that they even get some of their women to dress up as sheep just so they stay totally focussed on the game at all times. This has brought such benefits to Munster rugby that the animal has become sacred and they have even started to build shrines to them! Amazing.
Don’t get me wrong though, if victory means so much that you are willing to go to such beastly lengths then I tip my hat to you. And, to be fair, I must point out that it’s not just a Munster thing, they’re a bit like that out in Mayo too, only not as good obviously. New Zealanders are also pretty good at rugby too, that’s probably where many Munster men emigrated to over the years.

Btw if any Munster men are offended … baaaaaaa! Ya welly wearin’ sheep shaggin’ bog trotters!

Man sets himself alight after row with girlfriend

A man has sustained serious burns after he set himself on fire in Co Monaghan at the weekend.
The 24-year-old man is believed to have set himself alight … following a row with his girlfriend

Ah sham, c’mon. What were ya thinking?? I know they can drive you nuts at times but there’s no need to go to such lengths. Poor gossin.

NEWS RELEASE: First Irish Podcast to Achieve Radio Syndication
An tImeall, the daily podcast in the Irish language, today becomes the first independent Irish podcast to cross-over to traditional radio, as it begins a syndicated run on Galway city’s college community station, Flirt FM. The 15 minute show will air each weekday at 5:30pm

Podcasting is the term used to describe the distribution of sound and video files on the internet for use on portable digital players. Podcasts are subscribable, meaning that users can configure “podcatching” software such as Apple’s iTunes to watch for updates to selected podcasts and download them automatically to the users PC or mobile media device.

Podcasts are growing in popularity because they offer the audience greater choice of programming as well as increased convenience in terms of how, when and where they choose to listen or view. Podcasting also lowers the barrier to entry for content producers, allowing anyone to distribute their programming to a worldwide audience independently of transmission networks and programme schedules.

Recent months have seen a flurry of activity among traditional broadcasters eager to join the podcasting parade, and many popular Irish radio programmes are now also available as podcasts. Until now however, no independent podcast had made the transition to the airwaves in Ireland.

An tImeall is published at imeall.blogspot.com. It was the first podcast in the Irish language, and one of the first in Ireland. It’s mission is to serve the worldwide community of Irish speakers and to encourage the development of online networks to promote the language. Over 120 episodes have been produced since last July, and last month the site was honoured for it’s use of Irish at the inaugural Irish Blog Awards.

Flirt FM is the community radio station for the student population of Galway city’s two third level colleges. It was established in 1995. Flirt FM’s new summer schedule starts today and further details can be found at flirtfm.org.

p.s. Don’t forget us mere mortal bloggers when you’re rich and famous Conn :)

Google Ads

Lads & lassies … I hope ye don’t mind but i’ve decided to try out Google Ads on Raiméis just to see how they work or don’t work on blogs. If that top ad is too obtrusive I may remove it soon.

Edit: changed format of top ad. Looks a bit neater now.

Evolution slider

As posted on TCAL earlier today, the Evolution Slider, it’s outstanding work and well worth a look.
