"RTÉ recently published a new Public Service Broadcasting Charter. The
Irish Language is given particular attention in it."

Concerning the Irish language, the following is from the charter.

An Ghaeilge
In reflecting the bilingual nature of Irish society, RTÉ shall actively support the use of the Irish language in everyday life through the production of suitable programming

In terms of services RTÉ commits to:
(5) recognise the bilingual nature of Irish society

In terms of accountability RTÉ shall:
(8) provide details of its Irish language programming and other Irish language services in its Annual Report

RTÉ’s Statutory Mandate
Under the Broadcasting Authority Acts (1960 – 2001), RTÉ is required to provide a comprehensive range of programmes, in Irish and in English, which reflect the cultural diversity of the whole island of Ireland. RTÉ is specifically mandated to provide:

In fulfilling this mandate RTÉ is required to cater for the expectations of the community generally as well as the expectations of members of the community with special or minority interests.
