6 MEMBERS NOMINATED BY COMHDHÁÍL NÁISIÚNTA NA GAEILGE
The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív,
announced today that the first meeting of Coiste Comhairleach na Gaeilge
will be held on the first of July in Dublin. 6 of the 23 members
representing the education, media, sport and culture sectors were
nominated by Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge to represent An Chomhdháil
and its member organisations.

COISTE COMHAIRLEACH NA GAEILGE FÓGARTHA - 6 COMHALTAÍ AINMNITHE AG AN
gCOMHDHÁIL
D'fhógair an tAire Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe agus Gaeltachta, Éamon Ó
Cuív, inniu go mbeidh an chéad chruinniú de Choiste Comhairleach na
Gaeilge ann ar an gcéad lá de mhí Iúil i mBaile Átha Cliath. I measc 23
comhaltaí ó earnálacha an oideachais, na meán, an spóirt agus an
chultúir tá seisear a d'ainmnigh Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge mar
ionadaidthe thar a ceann agus thar ceann a balleagraíochtaí.
Dúirt an tAire gurb é an phríomhfheidhm a bheidh ag an gCoiste
Comhairleach ná comhairle a chur ar fáil don Rialtas faoi pholasaithe
Gaeilge. Mar chuid de sin, beidh an Coiste ag tabhairt comhairle don
Aire maidir leis na nithe seo a leanas:
* inmholtacht plean straitéiseacha 20 bliain a réiteach don Ghaeilge sa
Stát le spriocanna réalaíocha
* na tosaíochtaí straitéise gearrthéarmacha do chaomhnú agus do chur
chun cinn na Gaeilge laistigh den Stát
* na tosaíochtaí maidir le cur i bhfeidhm Acht na dTeangacha Oifigiúla
* na bealaí is fearr agus is praiticiúla chun dul chun cinn a bhaint
amach maidir le cur i bhfeidhm na hoibre sin.
Dúirt an tAire go mbeidh ról an-tábhachtach ag an gCoiste i gcomhthéacs
comhairle a chur air maidir le pleanáil teanga agus an cur chuige
straitéiseach dá réir.

THE IRISH LANGUAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED - 6 MEMBERS
NOMINATED BY COMHDHÁÍL NÁISIÚNTA NA GAEILGE
The Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Éamon Ó Cuív,
announced today that the first meeting of Coiste Comhairleach na Gaeilge
will be held on the first of July in Dublin. 6 of the 23 members
representing the education, media, sport and culture sectors were
nominated by Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge to represent An Chomhdháil
and its member organisations.
The Minister said that the main function of Coiste Comhairleach na
Gaeilge was to advise the Government regarding Irish language policies.
This will include advising the Minister with regard to the following:
* the advisability of a 20 year strategic plan with realistic goals for
the Irish language in the State
* the short-term strategic priorities of the preservation and the
promotion of the Irish language within the state.
* the priorities regarding the implementation of the
Official Languages Act
* the best and most practical ways to achieve progress with regard to
the implementation of that work
The Minister said that the Committee will have a very important role in
advising him with regard to language planning and the strategic approach
to be taken.
