Shels Take Two
A credible result in Croatia last night. Shels lost the game but managed to score two vital goals against Hadjuk Split, final result 3-2. The Croats may not be so nice in the return leg but Shels certainly have a chance thanks to those away goals. more..

Rooney best footballer ever? Right!
Just checking out the BBC Sports Academy and nearly choked on my kit-kat when I read what they have to say about England's Wayne Rooney.
"They've said he's better than Pele and George Best, perhaps potentially the best footballer ever to boot a ball."
I mean, get a grip lads! Mind you, don't think much of the system they are basing it on. more..

Irish teams in Europe
Shels have quite a job to do against Croatian side Hadjuk Split tonight if they hope to make it into the 3rd round of the Champions League. Fingers cross though i'm not optimistic.
More importantly Longford Town also have a toughie, they need to pull back a 1 goal defecit against FC Vaduz, UEFA Cup 2nd leg tomorrow night in Flancare Pk. Fingers, toes and willy crossed for that one.

West Nile virus in Ireland
Two cases of the West Nile virus are in Ireland, in both cases the infected had recently visited the Algarve in Portugal.
People visiting Europe are advised to "take measures to avoid being bitten by infected mosquitoes". That should be easy because by EU law all infected mosquitoes must wear a badge with "WNV Carrier" in bold letters. more..

Fighting crime with an evil-eye
Residents of the notorious Sea Point area in Cape Town have started combatting crime in their neighbourhood by staring at suspected criminals such as hookers and drugies.
"The Yellow Bibs, as the neighbourhood group is known because of the uniforms they wear, say it only takes about 15 minutes before the people they watch start to feel uncomfortable and leave."
A local city councillor, JP Smith was the clever dick to come up with the idea. more..

"I don't like [the English]"
A Scottish councillor has got into a spot of bother over comments he made about the English. When Portugal scored against England he shouted "'Ha, Ha! F* you! Ya f*ing beauty!" and was promptly kicked out of the pub. It's not the first time the same man has got into a bit of trouble for comments made.
Looking deeper into the subject this article states "Anti-English claims a myth" though an opinion poll indicates that many people agree that "anti-English feeling exists north of the border". more..
